For those of you that have celebrated Christmas I hope you have enjoyed your holiday and I hope you are look forward to the New Year! After pondering what to write about for my last post of the year I took inspiration from Tae Kwon- Do. I can remember watching the young white belts that ran riot in class turn into disciplined higher belts that would stand respectfully waiting for our instructor to give an order. As many of the martial arts aren’t just about physicality but also mental training, Tae Kwon-Do actually has theory to be learnt along the way. I started when I was six so there are some parts of the theory I have forgotten but other parts will never leave my mind. One of the things we first learnt are the ‘5 Tenets of Tae Kwon-do’, these are beliefs that should be practiced both in Tae Kwon-Do and everyday life. I hope by reading these you will feel inspired to perhaps practice them in the New Year. Some of you may already do, whereas others might need to be practiced more.
Practicing kindness and good manners never hurt anybody. Don’t get me wrong it is hard when provoked and in today’s world people take being kind as a weakness. There is a time to put someone in their place but practicing being respectful will make you a better person and take you further.
Being honest and honourable is a trait that I respect so much. I always say to someone I would rather have the truth and deal with it then a lie or being told later on. Personally I like direct and honest people but not everyone can handle the truth. This also goes for not owning up to something; believe me people will respect you more for honesty.
Practicing self control can be hard, especially when you like something so much but having self control creates a respect for yourself. Emotions play a huge part in this so in the New Year practice recognising what is making you lose control and try to overcome it through a clear and calm mind.
Everything worth having takes time and hard work. There are so many obstacles that will come your way but going forward and striving towards your goal will only make it happen.
An indomitable spirit is an inner strength that helps you overcome anything no matter the odds. It also means to stand up for what you believe in regardless of what people think. It is very easy for people to judge and everyone does it but refraining from doing this helps you lead a cleaner and toxic free life.
I want to say a big thank-you to everyone that has supported me so far and to all those that read my blog I hope you are enjoying it. I wish you an amazing New Year filled with great experiences and memories. If you have plans in the New Year then good luck and if you don’t have anything planned, what are you waiting for?!
